Based on police-reported data, nearly 2,800 seniors, aged 65 years and older, were the victims of family violence in 2010. Currently, there are approximately 5 million people aged 65 and over in this county.
The province has launched consultations to help inform its decisions about adult-protection legislation and ensure older adults affected by abuse have access to essential services and supports.
The seniors abuse line will soon be available 24-7 with expanded services, Healthy Living, Youth and Seniors Minister Jim Rondeau announced today at the Finding Solutions Symposium hosted by the Manitoba Network for the Prevention of Abuse of Older Adults.
On October 25 and 26, law enforcement, older adults, service providers and professionals from across Canada will come together, in Winnipeg, for the first Canadian Elder Abuse Training and Information Forum.
