There are flood warnings for the Pembina River downstream of La Rivière, the Souris River from the U.S.-Canadian Border and downstream, and the Qu’Appelle River in the St-Lazare area.
Yesterday, ice jams along the Assiniboine River between Poplar Point and Baie St. Paul Bridge caused surges in the water levels and overtopped and breached the dikes in some areas.
Manitoba Infrastructure and Transportation advises that PTH 75 will close at 2pm this afternoon as a result of rising flood waters.
The forecasted peak for the Assiniboine River at St-Lazare has increased due to higher flows from the Qu’Appelle River, snow in Saskatchewan and precipitation that has fallen and is forecasted for the Souris River basin.
High flows are continuing into the Portage diversion reservoir due to flows from tributaries and the large amount of water released from ice jams.
Cooler weather and snow across the southern portions of Manitoba have slowed the spring melt.
There is widespread overland flooding in the Interlake and western regions of the province causing damage to bridges, roads and other crossings.
Manitoba Water Stewardship has revised its crest forecast for the Red River in Manitoba.
Forecasters in the U.S. increased the predicted crest at Grand Forks by 0.46 metres (1.5 feet) since yesterday. The Red River is expected to crest in Grand Forks April 14 to 16.
Cooler temperatures forecast for later in the week will generally slow run-off and water level rises in the Assiniboine River basin, Dauphin Lake basin and Interlake area.
