Steinbach RCMP are notifying the public to remain vigilant and skeptical when receiving phone calls saying that they owe money.
Several residents in Portage la Prairie have recently reported receiving telephone calls and correspondence by mail from persons who claim they are accountants, financial institution representatives, insurance representatives, lawyers, etc.
Manitoba Public Insurance released its annual list of Top Five Frauds today, highlighted by a man who burned and destroyed his vehicle for no reason other than being “really mad”.
Steinbach RCMP were alerted to a fraudulent fundraiser being promoted in the City of Steinbach. The fundraiser was not licensed by the City of Steinbach or the Lottery Commission and ran from October 7-24, 2014.

On June 13, 2014, more charges were laid against 66-year-old Leslie Colmer, in relation to him presenting himself as a doctor and treating people seeking medical attention.
On June 3, 2014, Steinbach RCMP arrested Leslie Colmer, 66 years of age, on 14 charges of fraud and one charge of assault.
