After two years of championing legislation to protect paramedics, police, firefighters and victims of crime from contacting blood-borne diseases and seeing it quickly pass the Legislature last June, Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen is disappointed that the NDP government has yet to sign off on the legislation to officially make it law.

Steinbach MLA Kelvin Goertzen says he is pleased with a meeting he had Monday with Manitoba Education Minister Peter Bjornson to discuss the need for new schools in the Hanover School Division but adds there needs to be specific announcements soon from the NDP government.

On the heels of recent allegations of staff misconduct and ongoing concerns regarding severe overcrowding, high recidivism rates and gang activity, Progressive Conservative Justice Critic Kelvin Goertzen is calling on the NDP Justice Minister Dave Chomiak to commission a thorough operational review of Headingley Correctional Centre, to be conducted by an independent entity.
