Canada has the best food and the best athletes in the world, and the Government of Canada is showcasing both in Vancouver at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games.

Manitoba is ready to showcase the province Feb. 12 to 28 at the 2010 Winter Games, and the province’s presence in Vancouver has already won an award, Aboriginal and Northern Affairs Minister Eric Robinson, minister responsible for sport, announced.

The Honourable Vic Toews, Regional Minister for Manitoba, President of the Treasury Board and Member of Parliament for Provencher, today took part in celebrations welcoming the arrival of the Olympic Flame in Steinbach as part of the Olympic Torch Relay’s journey across Canada.

In advance of the arrival of the Olympic Torch Relay, it is important to understand the perimeters regarding approaching the torchbearer during the relay.

The Olympic Torch Relay (OTR) is coming to Steinbach in just over two weeks and Steinbach’s OTR Task Force is ready to see their hard work unfold in one incredible Celebration!

The Olympic Torch arrived in Thompson and Churchill, launching the first of many celebrations as it is carried through 33 Manitoba communities and lighting the way for the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.

Last night, the exciting announcement was made at Clearspring Centre that Special Olympian, Lennie Plett of Blumenort is the Community Torchbearer who will light the cauldron onstage at Steinbach’s Olympic Torch Relay Celebration on January 5, 2010.
