Every spring, young wild animals are unnecessarily picked up by the public and turned over to natural resource officers or wildlife rehabilitators for treatment and rearing.
On December 12, 2014, shortly before 3pm, Portage la Prairie RCMP assisted Natural Resource Officers with Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship in arresting and charging two men in relation to the selling of wild elk meat.
During the fall season, not only are road conditions changing, nightfall is coming earlier and wildlife is very active.
Fall is the season for the mating and migration of many species of wildlife, which means they tend to travel and cross roads more frequently, increasing the risk of collision with a motor vehicle.
Manitoba Conservation and Water Stewardship advises new protocols are being introduced to make euthanasia a last resort if injured or orphaned wildlife are not able to be rehabilitated.
