Obituary

Jake Krueger, age 90, of Tolstoi, MB passed away on Monday, October 29, 2018 at De Salaberry District Health Centre, St. Pierre, MB.

Dad will be lovingly remembered by his son and twin daughters.

Jacob was predeceased by his wife Helen in May of 2007, his parents, brothers John and Corny.

Dad was born to Jacob and Katharina Krueger on June 2, 1928 and grew up on a farm in Glenlea, MB. Other than doing farming, hockey was his favorite sport. He joined the organized hockey team as early as he could and played the forward position for the Glenlea Blues for 15 years. This hockey team traveled for competition to Niverville, Grunthal, Domain, Rosenort and elsewhere. It was amazing for this era. It was during these years that Dad realized that he needed to come into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Not only so he could spend eternity in Heaven one day but also live a life that would be executable and pleasing to God here on earth. He was far from perfect but pursued righteousness by spending time in prayer and the inspired word of God daily. Dad attended the Lancaster Evangelical Covenant Church for exactly eight years. He was never specific but after mentioned that there was certain things he could not do because of the Holy Spirit inside of him.

He moved from his parents farm to Winnipeg in 1964. Here he met his bride to be through his brother Corny and Mary. They were married October 29, 1966. 13 months later their only son was born, 15 months after that their family was completed by twin daughters. Dad was employed at J.B. Temro, an electrical company, while living in Winnipeg. As time passed on Mom and Dad were longing for the country lifestyle. In August 1975 we as a family were on our way from Winnipeg to Lake Bronson State Park for a week of camping. One mile from entering Minnesota, they noticed a farm for sale. On October 25, 1975, they moved to that farm and a country home was made. Camping continued at Lake Bronson only 22 miles southeast for another 10 years. April 1976, two cows were purchased from John and Agatha Krueger and cream production began. This continued for 17 years, maximizing at nine cows. Jacob milked the cows with the surge vacuum pump and buckets and carried all the milk to the house where Helen operated the cream separator and put all the cream into the tall cans. All equipment was manually washed and sanitize twice daily. Very time consuming and labour intensive.

April 1993, the cream quota was transferred to milk quota. At the same time a vacant dairy directly across the highway was purchased and milk production began. Today cows are milked in a parlor, milking 16 at a time. All milk is transferred via pumps and cooled rapidly. Pre-rinse, detergent, and wash cycles are entirely automated. Dad felt blessed to still be doing the 7:00 p.m. milking at the age of 88. He also took care of the lawn mowing at both yard sites. He had completed 40 years of milking in Tolstoi just prior to his 88th birthday.

The memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. The burial will take place prior to the service at Glenlea Cemetery, Glenlea, MB.
