Obituary

Mom was born July 1, 1929 and passed away quietly on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 a week after her second stroke.

Life was hard for her in her young years. Mom was unwanted by her father, making her mother give her and her sister up for adoption and keeping her brother. Mom was adopted and loved at the age of eight by Henry and Margaret Martens of Rosenort, whom she loved very much. It wasn’t long before her world changed drastically and her mother passed away. Her dad remarried and her two brothers were born.

As a young girl, Mom gave her life to Jesus and she has never stopped trusting in His grace to walk her through any hard time. Our parents were married Oct 26, 1952 and were able to spend 60 years together before Dad passed away suddenly on March 13, 2013 and a short six months later daughter Muriel was taken tragically. It was here she continued to show her strong faith as she learned to live without them. Over the course of their marriage, while Dad worked outside the home, Mom took care of either old people in the family home, University students or more than 100 foster children. In and among that time God blessed them with four children that made our family complete.

Leaving behind to mourn her passing are her children: son Andy (Elsie), son-in-law Murray Brandt, Myrtle (Marv) Janzen, Alex; grandchildren: Paul (Karen) Toews, Terry Toews; James (Sherisse) Brandt, Michelle (Brennan) Klassen, Jody (Josh) Fehr; Mitchell Janzen, Mikyla (Dave) Peters, Marshall Janzen; Paige Toews, Zander Toews; her precious great-grandchildren: Brandon, Makayla, Kypton Toews; Sully Brandt, Tyler, Dylan, Brady Bryce Klassen; Ethan, Grady, Hailey Fehr; Jayden Janzen; brothers Herman (Eleanor) and George Martens; three brothers-in-law and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Edward, daughter Muriel and granddaughter Angela and one sister.

As a family, we would like to thank the Emergency Response team that attended to Mom as well as Dr. Loewen and Dr. Fraser; nurses: Janine and Chantel and all the staff of Morris General Hospital.

The memorial service for Marlene will be held on Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosenort Fellowship Chapel, 65 Frontage Rd, Rosenort, MB. The interment will take place at the Rosenort Cemetery prior to the service.
