Obituary

Wilbert (Bert) Penner, 91, of Steinbach, formerly of Niverville, passed away peacefully on October 30, 2022, at Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB.

He is survived by his wife, Helen, son, Tim (Janice), grandchildren, Kathy (Jonathan) Wiens, Greg (Jodie) Rempel, Derek Penner, Travis (Suzanne) Penner, Candice (Gord) Kroeker, great-grandchildren, Carson and Grace Wiens, Brynnley and Savannah Rempel and Peter Kroeker.

He was predeceased by his daughter, Sheryl Rempel, brother, Jim Penner, and sisters, Melinda Penner and Alice Brandt.

Dad was born on September 30, 1931, to Peter and Katherine Penner in the RM of Hanover. He spent his youth in the Steinbach area. He married Helen Klassen on December 28, 1951, and celebrated 70 years together in 2021.

Dad received Christ in his youth. He was a person that lived his faith every day. He was an example of Christ to his family.

Dad was employed at many companies over the years, Reimer Express, Kingsway and Harkema, to name a few. Some of these had the family moving to Thunder Bay, Toronto, Calgary, back to Winnipeg and then to the Niverville area farm where they stayed 42 years. He enjoyed his work but he loved farming most of all.

Dad was a family man. He enjoyed picnics with family in the early years, family gatherings as the family grew. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, always quick with a smile and a twinkle in his eye. He loved anything chocolate. September 30th we celebrated his 91st birthday with a picnic in the park where he thoroughly enjoyed his chocolate cake.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 7, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with viewing one hour prior to the service.

We would like to thank the staff of Rest Haven Care Home for the wonderful care they gave Dad during the past two years.
