Obituary

It is with great sadness that the family of Tina Hildebrand announce her passing in the early morning of Friday, November 18, 2022.

Tina is survived by her children Ernest (Ruby) Hildebrand, Richard (Susan) Hildebrand, Kathleen (Daniel) Pilkey, and Gordon Hildebrand; ten grandchildren, one grandniece, nine great-grandchildren, and one great-grandniece.

Tina was predeceased by her husband Peter P. Hildebrand; her brothers William Friesen, Abraham Friesen, Pete Friesen, Jacob Friesen, and her sister Helen Hiebert; her nephew Edward Hildebrandt; and her grandnephew Mitchell Hildebrandt.

Tina grew up on a farm in the Niverville area. When she was five years old, her mother, Anna Leppky Friesen, died of meningitis. This was a very sad time for her. But she was always active and finding ways to keep things interesting, like falling off the back of the buggy, hunting for gophers, and bossing her little brother around.

When Tina was 18 years old, she married Pete Hildebrand and moved to New Bothwell where she did the bookkeeping for their auto repair business for 22 years. During that time, though, her primary focus was caring for her family and home. The death of her mother had affected her profoundly and she was determined to always be there for her children.

She was also an active Church member, volunteer in the community, poll worker, and census taker. Several years after Tina and Pete closed their auto repair business, Tina wanted the experience of earning her own regular paycheck, just for a short time. She took a job at Freshwater Fish Marketing Corporation and ended up staying on for ten years. Although the work was hard, this was her first real experience with life outside the Mennonite community and she really enjoyed getting to know her coworkers. She finally quit to have more time to devote to her family, which was rapidly growing as grandchildren started arriving. She and Pete then moved to Steinbach where they could be closer to their family.

Tina was a strong, independent, and loving person with a quick sense of humour. We will all miss her tremendously.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2022, at 3:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, Manitoba, with interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, Manitoba. Viewing will take place at the chapel prior to the service.

Special thanks to the staff at Bethesda Regional Health Centre who were so caring and helpful to both Mom and the family.
