Peacefully at Villa Youville, Ste. Anne, Alcide passed away on February 22nd, 2023 at the age of 89.
Born to Philippe and Imelda (Pinette) Lafreniere, he was predeceased by siblings Alain, Odile, Marcel, Christian, and Yves. Al is survived by his brother Emilien (Diane) and sister-in-law Denise Lafreniere.
He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, and their children, whose company he always enjoyed.
Northern Canada held a special appeal for Al. As a young teacher he moved to northern British Columbia and kept moving further north. He had a long career as an educator and administrator in the Yukon and Northwest Territories where he also worked as a civilian with the RCMP detachment on evenings and weekends. He eventually returned to Manitoba to be closer to family upon retirement. He initially settled on the farm in Treherne, where he could often be seen taking walks with his dog, his cat perched upon his shoulder. In latter years he resided in La Broquerie where he enjoyed spending time with extended family and visiting friends. He enjoyed going to the horse races as well as taking memorable hunting trips to Africa and New Zealand.
Al lived the life he chose, marched to the beat of his own drum. He was a big man of small stature. He was strong-willed, a nature lover and life-long learner. We have many “Uncle Al” stories that will keep us smiling for years to come.
Thank you Villa Youville for the care and compassion shown to Al during his time there. Merci to Rick and Brigitte for the support and special bond you shared with Al. He truly enjoyed his daily walks with your dog Pablo by his side.
As per Al’s wishes cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held.
