It is with profound sadness we announce that after a short courageous battle, Dana Estelle Spence, aged 60, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023 at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre.
She is survived by her husband of 17 years Mike, son Jared, siblings; (Alec Robert Minty deceased). Kenneth Minty, Colleen Neumann (Dale), Carol Minty, David Minty, Glenys Danell (Russ) and numerous nieces and nephews.
Dana was born on September 26, 1962 in Winnipeg, Manitoba as the youngest of 8 children to Gladys and Andrew A. Minty. She quickly found her role in the family as a favourite, being brought along on dates, school trips, and as a mascot for her family’s various teams. From a very young age Dana enjoyed bringing happiness to those around her.
After a few moves, Dana found herself in Cranberry Portage, where she worked as a paramedic. It was here she met Mike, and together they moved to Ste. Anne before settling in Steinbach in 2010. Dana continued her work as a paramedic throughout, eventually being promoted to Superintendent ACP before her retirement in 2021.
While Dana loved helping others through her work, she also adored animals. There were always at least two in the house, often more, and they all knew who to come to in order to get a few extra treats. Dana loved to read in her spare time, especially Terry Pratchett and Stephen King, and loved to spend time with Mike (and the dogs) at the camper.
Thank you to the staff at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre for their care and compassion in their care for Dana.
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
