Obituary

Harry R. Friesen, our father, our friend, died peacefully on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, at Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB, with his family around him.

Harry was born October 29, 1943, at home in Blumenort, MB.

He is survived by his wife Shirley and his four children: Michele (Peter), Denise, Jason (Katherine), & Sheila (Kelvin), his eight grandchildren: Dorian (Chantelle), Jeremy (Amanda), Amber (Caitlyn) Rosie, Chance, Noah (Tess), Georgia, & Hudson, his two great-grandchildren Eden & Hailey and his four sisters and six brothers.

He is predeceased by his parents Ben & Helen, two brothers, three sisters, a brother-in-law, and one great-grandchild.

Harry was 14 years old when he committed his life to the Lord and he was baptized in the Blumenort EMC. Later on in life he was also baptized in the Jordan River in Israel.

Harry first worked at Reimer Overhead Doors for two years. He then started working construction and ended up with his own crew. He did this for the remainder of his working life until he retired. He was a hard worker, providing for his family. In his retirement he worked delivering newspapers for The Carillon in Steinbach.

We went on many family vacations Disney World, Yellowstone, Niagara Falls to name a few and later on in his retirement he continued to travel. Places like The Holy Land, China, The Smoky Mountains, Europe, & Poland (to learn about his Mennonite roots).

He loved travelling especially with his wife Shirley because he knew life was short and he wanted to enjoy it. He enjoyed camping, fishing, water skiing, golfing, snowmobiling, gardening and in his early years played hockey.

He loved going out every morning for breakfast. Meeting up with his buddies, brothers, and nieces. He loved his lunch and supper dates with his kids. And many times breakfasts as well. He loved getting together with his family and friends.

He loved watching the grandchildren play sports. And enjoyed concerts by his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He truly enjoyed life and now he is enjoying life to the fullest; walking the streets of gold in the presence of his Savior.

The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 28th, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB, with viewing prior to the service and a private burial after lunch at the Blumenort Community Church Cemetery, Blumenort, MB.

Memorial donations may be made to Diabetes Canada, 401-1 Wesley Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3C 4C6, or Steinbach Community Outreach, 345 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach, MB R5G 0L1.
