Edwin (Ed) Reimer

Obituary

Peacefully with family by his side, our husband, father, grandfather, great-grand father, brother, uncle and friend, Edwin Reimer, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, July 28, 2023, at the Bethesda Regional Health Centre.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty, of 57 years; one daughter, Sharlene White; one son, Ian (Linda) Reimer; Five grandchildren, Lorie (Allen), Christopher, Dustin, Jayden, and Logan; Six great-grandchildren Alexia, Shayanne, Landon, Avrianna, Nykolai and Lydia.

He also leaves behind his brother Dan (Martha), and 6 sisters; Mary (Alvin) Suderman, Arlene Barkman, Helen Dueck, Sarah (John) Plett, Adina (Wes) Plett, and Norma (Ed) Klassen. As well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Along with Mom’s siblings; Rosaline (Wayne) Remple, sister in-law Mary Friesen, Wilbert (Carol) Friesen, Harold (Cheryle) Friesen.

He is predeceased by 4 brothers in-law; Frank Braun, Melvin Barkman, Bert Dueck, and Ben Friesen. One sister in-law; Rosena Friesen.

Dad was born May 1, 1940, in the RM of Ste. Anne, to Peter and Gertrude Reimer. He was the eldest of eight children. Dad went to school in Landmark, MB and completed the seventh grade. At that time, he was needed to help at home because his father was ill and unable to do all the work.

Dad was baptized on the confession of his faith on May 21, 1956, in the Prairie Rose EMC Church.

Dad had many jobs in his younger years. He hauled beets, worked at a lumber camp, and did bush clearing in the Brandon area.

In March of 1965 he met the love of his life Betty. One year later, Mom and Dad got married on March 26, 1966. They resided in Landmark and dad worked at the Landmark Feed Mill.

In February of 1970, they adopted a beautiful baby girl and named her Sharlene. Two years later they adopted their second child, a wonderful baby boy, they named Ian.

In 1973, Dad and Mom bought a farm and moved to Hudson Bay, SK. Dad raised cattle year-round. During the winter months, Dad would also work in the pulp mill and in the logging industry.

In 1975, Dad’s father decided to sell his share of his farm to Dad and Mom. So, they packed up and moved their cattle with them to Fisher Branch, MB. They began farming with his brother Dan and wife Martha. There they farmed cattle, hogs and grain for thirty years.

In 2004, Mom and Dad sold the farm and built their new home in Arborg, MB. In their retirement Dad was still working. For seven years he was driving the handi-van, part-time in Arborg. He was also a volunteer driver to drive others to appointments in the city. He also worked for Viking Motors transporting vehicles and worked for Meals on Wheels. Dad also enjoyed volunteering in many ways. Men’s prayer breakfast committee, Sunday school superintendent, church usher, thrift store, bible class teaching in a Hutterite colony school and on the MDS Board.

Dad really enjoyed travelling across the USA and Canada with mom, cooking for many other volunteers at MDS sites.

Dad also enjoyed riding his bike, going for walks, woodworking, singing, camping and spending time with his family.

In 2018, Mom and Dad moved to Steinbach, to be closer to the family. It has been a blessing to be able to spend more quality time with them over the past five years.

Dad has been an incredible blessing to many people over the years. He did many visitations in hospitals, personal care homes, and friends in the community.

Dad always said his prayer was that all his family would receive Christ and meet him in heaven.

We would like to thank all the EMS, doctors, nurses, and hospital staff for the wonderful and loving care dad received.

A livestreamed funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 4, 2023 at Crossings Funeral Care, with viewing 1 hour prior to the service. Ed will be laid to rest in the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach.
