Werner Helmut Wiebe, 84, died Sunday, August, 20, 2023, in the Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB.
He leaves behind the love of his life, Linda. Being the youngest of nine siblings, he leaves to mourn two sisters, Elsie and JoAnna, brother Walter, and many nieces and nephews.
His parents Jacob and Elizabeth Wiebe, and five brothers – George, Jack, John, Henry and Peter predeceased him.
Werner was born July 16, 1939, in the Concordia Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.
He attended a Mennonite Brethern church, where he became a Christian and was baptized in the church.
Werner graduated from Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute (MBCI) in 1957. He continued his studies at the University of Manitoba with a science degree and then went to Teacher’s College.
Linda and Werner were married July 3, 1976, at Portage Avenue Mennonite Church.
Werner worked at Grant Park High School as a lab tech for his entire working career.
They bought a farm at St. Norbert – a market garden, where they grew strawberries, tomatoes, raspberries, saskatoons. Although, there were many challenges, Werner’s ingenuity did overcome piping water systems and home renovations to include a mother-in-law’s suite. It was their home for years.
After retiring from the farm, they have lived in Steinbach for about ten years. Werner enjoyed their new church, Steinbach EMC, cycling and meeting friends for coffee.
His memory will continue through the values he demonstrated in life: faith, kindness, work ethic, integrity.
The livestreamed memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
