David J. Doerksen

Obituary

David J. Doerksen, our husband, father and grandfather was born to Peter and Katharina (nee Dyck) on March 26,1957, in Winnipeg, MB. He departed this life suddenly on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg, MB.

Dad leaves to mourn his wife Sharon (nee Ginter) of 44 years, son Matthew (fiancé Amanda), children Lilya and Micah, daugther Sarah (Jeff), children Rachel and Hannah, mother-in-law, three brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-laws.

David was baptized upon the confession of his faith into the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church in New Bothwell on May 15, 1978, by Bishop John A. Friesen. He was active in church as a Sunday School teacher, usher, song leader, board member, attending church meetings and as a caretaker. He enjoyed listening to the streaming church messages, through his daily Bible reading he knew scriptures from memory and was great with numbers.

David grew up in New Bothwell and Steinbach, and we lived in Steinbach and Winnipeg for many years. Dad spent many years working in the window and door industry. He enjoyed taking family on outings and appointments. Dad enjoyed his children, grandchildren, music of all kinds, chocolate and he had a great sense of humour.

David was predeceased by his parents Peter and Katharina (nee Dyck) and stepmom Anne.

We extend a thank you to the Winnipeg Fire Department and paramedics and the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for their kindness and compassion.

Thank you to those who kept us in their prayers and helped support us during this difficult time. It is appreciated.

The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023, 2:00 p.m. at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church, New Bothwell, MB, with viewing prior to the service and burial to follow at the church cemetery.
