Obituary

“May the road rise up to meet you, may the wind be ever at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face and the rain fall softly on your fields. And until we meet again, may God hold you in the hollows of his hand.”

On September 3rd, 2023, Wendy Ann June Ranseth’s time here suddenly and unexpectedly came to an end. Wendy was born in Winnipeg, at St. Boniface Hospital, on June 2nd, 1954. Her life is celebrated by her daughter – Sharna (Chris), her grandchildren – Brad (Taylor), Allison (Alex), Austin (Shanda), Blaise (Sarah), Connall, Waylon and Malcolm, her great grandchildren – Alyrica, Alister, Nolan, Fiona and Aspen, her life companion – Richard, who brought light to her busy life and made her feel so loved, her sisters – Linda (Albert) and Debbie (Ivan), her nieces and nephews – Jason, David (Jennifer), Nikki (Jim), Samantha (Curtis) and Alicia (Peter), many other family members, as well as many friends she met throughout the years from church and her community. She was predeceased by her mother and step-father – Rose and Bernie VanDerMeer.

Wendy was very adventurous and loved to be outdoors. She led her baby sister through childhood, up and over mountains of snow. She loved all forms of skiing, biking, camping, hiking, birdwatching, canoeing (teaching her baby sister not to just step directly into the canoe from the dock, after getting dumped into the water), and the occasional New Years eve polar plunge. She was also quite creative. She wrote poems, loved the theater and took part, either on stage or behind the scenes, in many plays. She took pride in her handmade, prize-winning Halloween costumes. She loved to dance, and even received trophies and taught ballroom dancing. She also loved gardening, playing cards and board games, and was devoted to God and her church. She enjoyed travelling, and was blessed to have had adventures in Mexico, Dominican Republic, Cuba, with her most recent plans to visit Italy.

Wendy’s sunny smile would light up any room, and she is fondly remembered for all the laughs and great times she had with all those that loved her.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails” ~ Proverbs 19:21
