On Saturday, October 7, 2023, Bernhard W. Hiebert (Ben), husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa, died surrounded by family at the PCH in Niverville, Manitoba. Ben will be remembered and missed by his family. However, we are thankful that our dad was freed from his struggles on this earth and is now in his eternal home with the God he loved and served, the Saviour who redeemed him. For him there is no more pain, no more sorrow and no more loneliness as he is reunited with his beloved Anna.
He is survived by his five children. John (Gabi), Dennis (Dorothy), Kathy (Ken Siemens), Erna (Zahir Visram) and Helena (David Goerz). He is also survived by his 17 grandchildren, all of whom loved their grandpa. Miriam, Rebekah, Timothy, Julia, Charissa, Jennifer, Melinda, Colleen, Travis, Kara, Shelly, Kaeleb, Katrina, Bianca, Stephen, Danielle and Kristopher as well as 36 great-grandchildren.
Dad was born December 14, 1924, on the family farm in Tourond, Manitoba. As a boy he herded the sheep and as a young man worked on the family farm. When his mom became ill, he had to move off the family farm and he purchased a parcel of land. Here he and Anna raised their family. Eventually they retired to Roselawn Bay in Niverville, Manitoba.
In 1965, he was selected to be a pastor at the Niverville Chortitzer Church. He fulfilled this role until his retirement and then he volunteered as a chaplain at the St. Boniface Hospital in Winnipeg.
A public viewing will be held on Wednesday, October 11, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach MB, followed by a private family burial and family memorial.
