Agatha Rempel, aged 73, of Steinbach, formerly Tourond, passed away Tuesday, October 17th, 2023 at the Niverville Heritage Life Personal Care Home. She passed peacefully, surrounded by family, being ushered to the gates of heaven by the sound of singing.
She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Margaret Peters and Tina Penner, and one brother in infancy. She leaves to mourn her passing her four children and their families: daughter Lynda and Isaak Wall and their children Jesse, Rebekah (Gerald), and Matthew (Meagan), daughter Sheila and Pete Hildebrandt and children Keith (Karlee) and Alexandra (Alex), son Chris and Nicole Rempel and children Victoria, Tyler, and Aleisha, and daughter Kelly and Derek Decru and daughters Ainsley and Eryn, two great-grandchildren, as well as three sisters, five brothers, many relatives and friends.
Agatha was born on June 4th, 1950, to Franz and Katharina Peters in Mexico. When she was seven years old, the family moved to Canada. They first moved to Ontario and within a year, they moved to Manitoba.
Being the oldest in her family, she was forced to quit school after grade six, but decided to work on her GED as an adult, and did quite well in her studies.
Agatha was baptized before she married Ben, but she was baptized again on confession of her faith around 2011.
Agatha met Ben in 1968, and they married a year and a half later, on July 26th, 1969. They moved to the Rempel family farm, and lived there until 2003. During those years, they had four children, three daughters and one son. Before they moved off the farm to Steinbach, their family had started increasing with in-laws and grandchildren.
Agatha always loved children, and was drawn to them. She was a Youth Leader during her time at Niverville CMC and taught Sunday School at the CFC in Steinbach.
Agatha held several jobs off the farm, such as a cook at Busy Bees in Kleefeld, an edger at Tri Me Cabinets, a cook in the Waffle Shop at Penner Chev, working in the A la carte department at Penner Foods and house cleaning for others.
One of Agatha’s greatest joys was connecting with people, whether that was family, friends or strangers. This was also evident when she moved to the Care Home, where she was known for being friendly, joyful and sharing the gospel.
Her husband Ben passed away in 2014, after 44 years of marriage. After his passing, Agatha’s disease started taking over her life. For her safety, she was moved into Greendale Estate in Grunthal in December of 2017 and then to the Heritage Life Personal Care Home in Niverville in February 2018.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing one hour prior to the service.
The interment will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
