Our Dad, Abram U. Klassen passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 4, 2023, at the age of 102, at the Menno Home in Grunthal, Manitoba.
Dad was born April 6, 1921, on the farm in Twin Creek to John K and Anna Klassen. On May 25, 1941, he married Margaret Barkman and spoke of their marriage as a blessing to him. They settled on the family farm and lived there until 1972, when they moved into Blumenort, Manitoba.
Besides farming, Dad worked at a variety of jobs – mainly carpentry in his younger years. In the early 1970’s he became manager of the hatchery in Blumenort, where he worked until his retirement in 1986. He was a conscientious employee and went to the hatchery several times on weekends and evenings to be sure things were running as they should. After retirement he took up welding and woodworking and enjoyed time in his shop. He and Margaret also took several trips to visit their children who lived in other provinces.
After Margaret passed away in 2010, he stayed in their home in Blumenort, along with Bev, until February 2021 when he moved to the Menno Home in Grunthal, Manitoba.
He took much joy in his family and faithfully prayed for each of us. The last several years were difficult for him as his hearing and eyesight deteriorated greatly.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret in 2010, two children in infancy and one daughter-in-law, Verna, in 2014.
He will be missed by his children, Fred, John (Diane), Allan (Laverna), Martha (Rody) Rongavilla, Mary Lynn (Ralph) Unger, Beverly, Robert (Sheila), Lois (Jake) Siemens and Sheila Bissonnette plus their families. He leaves 67 grandchildren and great grandchildren.
A livestreamed funeral service will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing 30 minutes prior to the service.
