Jacob Funk, age 74, of Grunthal, MB., passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at the De Salaberry & District Health Centre, St. Pierre-Jolys, MB., with his family by his side.
Jacob was born to Peter and Eva Funk on August 7, 1949 in the R.M. of De Salaberry, Barkfield, MB.
He is survived by his children, Jeff Funk, Jason and Cindy Funk, Jerome Funk and partner Terri, Jennifer Clark, Jackie and Darryl Kehler, and his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his mother Eva Funk.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Elizabeth Funk, his father, Peter Funk and brother-in-law, Victor Krahn.
Dad married our beautiful mother Elizabeth Plett on February 17,1968 and shared 51 years of marriage until mom’s passing on March 12, 2019. For anyone who knows our dad, they would know that he absolutely loved to drive and he combined his passion for driving with that of serving his community by driving people from cancer care to and from their appointments. Dad would fill his days by going for coffee daily, attending weekly bible study and church on Sundays. Dad loved to garden, go to Victory Lane Speedway and hockey, as long as they were winning. Though, what he loved most was when his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren would come to visit him. He was a man full of jokes and brought so much joy to not only his family and friends, but also the workers at St. Pierre Hospital. Our dad will be lovingly remembered and forever missed by his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and anyone who has ever had the privilege to have gotten to know him over the years.
The family wishes to express appreciation and gratitude for all the prayers, words of encouragement and the many visits received from family and friends during dad’s stay in the hospital. We also want to thank all staff at the De Salaberry Health Centre for the wonderful and exceptional care given to our dad during his stay, for it truly couldn’t have been a better experience.
The funeral service will be held on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing one hour prior to the service. A private family interment has been planned.
