Johann Unrau of Niverville, Manitoba passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at the age of 72.
John was born August 14, 1951, to Jacob and Maria (Giesbrecht) Unrau in Chaco, Paraguay and emigrated to Canada April 28, 1968.
On June 26, 1971, John married Tina Sawatzky, the mother of his three children, in Niverville, MB.
John is survived by his wife Tina, two sons: Stanley (Carrie), Wesley, one daughter: Nancy (Wesley); four grandchildren: Sebastian, Zoe (Cayden), Leah (Chris), Joshua (Camren) and one great-grandson Daemon.
John will also be remembered by his stepmother, Ann Unrau; five brothers: William (Helen), Henry (Mary), Martin (Margaret), Rudy (Mary) & Edward; five sisters: Hilda (Ed), Martha (Dick), Maria, Edith, Betti (Ric); his sister-in-law Helena, and many nieces and nephews
John was predeceased by his mother, Maria and father, Jacob and six siblings, Andrew, Jake, Erica, Diedrich, as well as a brother and sister at infancy.
John had been employed as truck driver but mostly worked in construction and driving cement truck but was forced to retire in 2017 for health reasons. In his spare time, he was a song leader in church. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, camping at Moose Lake and White Lake with a lot of fishing but mostly standing behind a grill, BBQing for his friends and family.
The livestreamed memorial service will be held Friday, December 15, 2023, at 10:30 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
