Norma Hiebert, aged 86 years, of Steinbach, MB., passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at the Ste. Anne Hospital, Ste. Anne, MB.
She is survived by her beloved husband Floyd, their two daughters Cheryl and Jane, one son David, and one son-in-law Norm, as well as one brother Ray, one sister-in-law Nicky and their families.
Norma was predeceased by her parents Henry & Maria Peters and one brother Kenny.
Mom was born in Winnipeg, MB., on September 30, 1937.
In her teens, she worked as a nanny and then worked at Rexall Drug Store. During that time, when our dad saw our mom, he knew she was “the one.” They were married on June 29, 1956.
Mom worked until her first daughter, Cheryl, was born on Thanksgiving Day, 1957. Two years later, along came Jane, followed by David two years after that. So mom became a stay at home mom and homemaker. She loved cooking, baking and entertaining.
Mom was committed to and actively involved in various church activities including cradle roll, Sunday School, Pioneer Girls, Food Coordinator and Library.
Mom loved to travel and fondly remembered camping trips with our family. Highlights included road trips to the east and west coast, California, and annual summer holidays to Detroit Lakes. Other travels included destinations such as Greece, Italy, Hawaii, Phoenix and Palm Springs.
Mom’s creative side was evidenced by her water colouring paintings and her involvement in Mennonite Heritage Village Auxiliary where she sewed aprons and made cards which were sold at the museum store.
She was an avid gardener, producing an abundance of vegetables and beautiful flowers.
Faith, family, and friends were very important to mom. She prayed for us every day. She was a sweet and loving person. She will be in our hearts forever. Words cannot express how much she will be missed.
The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
