Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, Marielle Lucille Dumont. On Monday January 22nd, 2024, at the age of 92, God granted mom’s last wish to pass away peacefully in her own home.

Mom was born in Aubigny, MB on October 5th, 1931 to Joseph and Elizabeth Levesque. She was the second of seven children.

At the age of 18 she married the love of her life, Arthur Dumont, on October 29th, 1949.

Mom and dad first lived in an apartment in the St. Boniface area of Winnipeg where their first two boys were born. After a few years they moved to Otterburne to be closer to family and get away from city life. They had four more children before putting down roots in Ile des Chenes in 1957. This was their last move and they were blessed with seven more children.

Never employed outside of the home, mom devoted her life to her family. Even with her house bursting with her own 13 children, she always had room in her heart and home for more.

She was a very resourceful and determined woman. After losing her husband in 1990, she decided it was time to get her driver’s licence at the age of 60 years young. She was not afraid to tackle any obstacle or situation that presented itself. Mom was a great cook and was known for her “Nothing Soup” and her homemade buns. In summer, she could be found toiling in her large vegetable garden or her cherished flower beds. She also enjoyed carpentry and was happy to receive power tools as Christmas and birthday gifts. Mom enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing and it was always a treat to receive a piece of her handiwork. She kept her mind sharp by reading books and working on her word puzzles. Her favourite puzzles were cyrptograms.

She loved spending time with her family – nothing made her happier than holding a baby in her arms. Everyone who met her was soon drawn in by her witty sense of humour. She was a homebody but was known and loved by many outside the family.

Mom was the thread that held us together and will forever be cherished and deeply missed. May you rest in peace mom and be rejoined with your loved ones in heaven. Love you forever.

Mom was predeceased by her husband, Arthur, of 41 years, two sons (Jean-Paul & Daniel), grandson Robert, great-granddaughter Abbygail, two brothers (Lionel & Gerry), and one sister (Lynda).

She leaves to mourn her children Marcel, Claude (Janice), daughter-in-law Lynda, Leo (Betty), Gerry (Gerda), Ginette (Jean-Luc), Lise (Andy), Alain (Paula), Patrick (Doris), daughter-in-law Candace, Michelle (Art), Susan (Dennis), Rene; 29 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two brothers (Marcel & Jean-Pierre) and one sister (Gisele).

The family would like to thank homecare for helping to make it possible for mom to remain in her home until the very end. A special thank you to Val for all the loving care she provided. Also to Shelly for going above and beyond her duties of house-cleaning and showing compassion and understanding in caring for mom – it was greatly appreciated!

Thank you also to the staff at Crossings Funeral Care for helping make this difficult time more bearable.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024 at the Catholic Church of Ile des Chenes, 453 Main Street, Ile des Chenes. Following the service burial will take place at the Ile des Chenes Catholic Cemetery with reception to be held at TC Energy Centre.
