Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Stanley Hildebrandt, affectionately known as Stan, Stanny, Grandpa & Papa Stan, on February 25, 2024.

Left to mourn his passing are his spouse, Stacey Chigol, daughters Amy Harms (Karl), Alyssa Ireland (Cody) and Alexis Chigol (Devon), grandchildren Mackenzie Harms, Rylie Harms, Noah Dowhan-Chigol and Miles Ireland (with another one on the way). He is survived by his sister Linda Dyck, niece Melissa and many friends, especially golfing companions and breakfast buddies Ike, Larry, and Ernie.

Stan was predeceased by his parents Abe and Anne Hildebrandt, and brother-in-law Brian Dyck.

Born on July 16, 1954, Stan grew up to become a jack of all trades. His ingenuity and resourcefulness were truly remarkable, and there was little he couldn’t fix or build from scratch. From welding to mechanical work, building furniture to cooking his infamous Noah omelets, there was no challenge too great for Stan to tackle.

Stan was generous with his time and can-do attitude. He was always willing to lend a helping hand, or a listening ear to anyone in need. He was a reliable handyman for Aunt Irene (in exchange for pizza or chicken for dinner, of course) and he offered invaluable advice and support to his sister Linda. His selflessness and willingness to go above and beyond for others left a mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

These skills and practical knowledge led Stan into multiple professions throughout his life. He worked as a mechanic, car salesman and truck driver before settling on a career as a business owner. He owned Sur-Flo Eavestroughing, a soffit and fascia installation company until his retirement at age 65.

As a young man, Stan found excitement in the strategic game of poker. His cunning skills and stoic poker face made him a formidable opponent playing with friends and competing in tournaments. It was his love of friendly competition and the bonds formed over a deck of cards that made these games special.

Yet, Stan’s true passion was for golf. This was evident to everyone who knew him. Whether on the green, watching the pros on TV, or sharing the joy of the sport with family and friends, Stan found solace with every swing of the club. His dedication to the sport was unmatched, and he found happiness in every round played.

Off the course, Stan’s love for Stacey was unwavering. During the cold, winter months they could often be found snuggled on the couch (with Stan in his designated spot) watching movies, British sitcoms, and the Winnipeg Jets. In the summer, when they weren’t caring for their beloved squirrels, they would take rides in Stan’s red Miata (nicknamed “the Barbie car”) even driving as far as Flin Flon to visit Ma Pa C and hang out in his favourite chair. Together Stan and Stacey shared countless cherished moments and built a life filled with love and laughter.

Stan’s greatest joy came from his role as Grandpa. His love for his grandchildren knew no bounds, and each one held a special place in his heart. Whether it was sharing stories, playing games, or simply being present, Stan’s admiration for Mackenzie, Rylie, Noah, and Miles was evident in every interaction he had with them. From an early age, he took Mackenzie on breakfast dates, continuing this tradition even as she graduated from high school and entered university. Stan never missed a school or sporting event, and especially loved cheering Rylie on during her basketball games – he was her biggest fan.

Stan was Noah’s best friend and role model, and there was nothing they wouldn’t do (or build) together. And Stan was the first person Miles asked for whenever he went for a visit at Grandma and Grandpa’s house – it was “papa’s home.” He took pride in watching his grandkids grow and thrive, and his guidance and wisdom will continue to inspire them in the years to come.

Stan will forever be remembered for his kindness, patience, and easy-going attitude. While he may have left this world, his memory will continue to live on in the countless lives he touched. May he rest in peace, knowing he was dearly loved and will be profoundly missed.

A celebration of Stan’s life will be announced at a future date.
