Obituary

Gilbert Wavell Love passed away on Monday, June 3, 2024, at the age of 83 years. He was living at the Vita Personal Care Home, Vita, MB., at the time of his passing.

Gilbert will be forever missed by his sisters Linda (Anthony) Shewchuk of Gardenton and Della Love of Winnipeg; Aunt Rose (John) Sass of Benito; loving nieces and nephew Petrina (Richard) Verrier, Larissa Love, David (Lilly) Shewchuk, Angelina Turney, Tannis (Trevor) Nicholson, Linda Love, Kim (Jim) Ludwar and Andrea (Dwayne) Smandych; great-nieces and nephews Scott, Kurt, Tyra, Logan, Seaira, Riley, Madison, Kennedy, Ariana, Carter, Joshua, Melissa, Elizabeth, Sarah, Christopher and Carrie.

Gilbert was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Mary (Hubic) Love; his brothers Dale and Roger (Beatrice) Love and sister Gay, brother-in-law Paul Smandych.

Gilbert was born at home on March 14, 1941. He attended school at Sunny Isle and in Vesna, SK. After school, he worked in Winnipeg and Gillam before returning to Arran. He purchased land and continued running the family farm in Arran, SK.

Gilbert decided to retire from farming but continued to live on the farm until moving into the Thunder Hill Courts in Benito, MB. Due to health concerns, he moved in with his sister Linda and as his health further declined, moving into the Vita Personal Home in Vita, MB.

Gilbert lived a very active life, always being the life of the party, either having a joke to tell or a story to share. He liked spending time offering a helping hand or advice on “proper” farming practices, curling at the Arran Rec. Center while being a board member. He enjoyed socializing with friends and laughing with family. Gilbert left a mark on all who met him. With a wit that was only matched by his sisters’, his humor could be found as a guide in the darkest of times.

In saying ‘see you next time’ Gib we remember the countless moments of kindness and patience he graciously shared with us, filling our lives in ways beyond measure. The love he showed his family is more than words can describe, leaving behind a legacy of warmth and compassion that will be forever cherished.

In accordance with his wishes, Gilbert has been cremated.
