Peter N Froese of Mitchell, Manitoba, went home to meet his Saviour on Wednesday, July 10th, 2024, with his loving wife Linda of over 60 years at his side. Peter was able to spend his final hours with his children and many of his grandchildren surrounding him with love while he passed away peacefully.
He leaves behind his amazing wife of almost 61 years, Linda, his children, Cliff & Lydia, Ernie & Frieda, Val & Kevin. Also left to remember Grandpa are his grandchildren that he was so proud of. Kristin (Dave), Kendra (Jill), Colton (Carlee), Stephanie, Shane (Jaelyn), Steph Cabral (Cody), Angel, Dravin, Makalye, Delaney, Liam.
Opa also leaves to cherish his memory his 10 great-grandchildren: Arianna, Harper, Kellan, Forrest, Lark, Ryker, Titus, Grady, Rowan & Brynlee.
He will also be lovingly remembered by one sister Caroline, two brothers Harold (Shon), Dennis (Michele), three sisters-in-law Helen (John), Rose (Ben), Anne (John) and two brothers-in-law John (Tina), Max (Doreen) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Gertrude in 1992 and Father John in 2006.
Pete was born on August 25, 1940, in Altona and in 1948 a move was made to Chortitz, later called Randolph. He attended the small two room and might have received a grade 6 standing which is still to be confirmed. Dad had said he had grade 12 as he took grade 6 twice. He left school to help on the family farm and later had jobs at the Manitoba Sugar factory and Barkman Concrete.
On June 11, 1961, Pete met a lovely young lady at a wedding in Altona of all places and sparks flew.
A first date was planned however Dad forgot about that date as he was helping his father on the field. Further dates must have been better because on August 4, 1963, a wedding occurred.
In September of 1961 Dad was offered an opportunity to become employed at a garage in Randolph by Mr. Henry Neufeld. It was here that an amazing mechanic who seemingly could fix everything started his lifetime of helping everyone. “Mr. Carburetor Man” was just one of the many reasons that people came to Pete to get help. Dad worked for the Neufeld family for 47 years, and we as a Froese family want to thank the Neufeld’s for including us in their lives.
Dad was also an individual who loved his Savior. For many years he served in the local church as a Sunday school teacher, Maintenance committee member and over 20 years as the sound man who could make everyone sound good. Dad was elected to the Building Committee and served faithfully in this position.
Pete had a gift of speaking to everyone. It made absolutely no difference who you were or what your standing in life was. If you were willing to talk to Dad, he was there to listen. Even long after you finished what you wanted to say and had the gift of making you feel better or more significant after the discussion.
Dads’ laughter was what a lot of people remember about him. His unique laugh would stop people in their tracks. This laugh was so distinct that people still talk about it to this day.
One thing that was a given was his staunch and firm love for his family. As we can attest to as his children and grandchildren, Grandma and Grandpa made every effort to attend whatever function and event we were involved in. Whether at a sporting event, school choir, or band concert, Grandma and Grandpa were always there cheering us on and supporting our every effort. Sometimes Grandpa even had to put some other spectators in their place and remind them that officials were needed to complete the sport their child was playing in. (Thanks Dad).
Dad desire to help others continued even outside of his Neufeld Garage days. Numerous people’s houses were wired by Pete and his kids with mom managing clean up and coffee breaks. He continued to fix small engines at home after his career came to a close.
His life of service was loosely found in James 1:27 which states “Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this… to look after orphans and widows in their distress.”. Dad was always there to look after people who needed it. Dad, you did a super job in instilling that same desire in each one of your children.
Dad’s choice to have a positive approach to life and continue to lean on his Saviour, for strength and direction, was tested in 2016 with Colorectal cancer surgery, in 2020 with bladder cancer surgery and treatment and 2023 with incurable Lung Cancer. Throughout this journey Dad never complained.
Your presence here today attests to the wonderful legacy that Pete has left to us all.
Dad, we will truly miss you but in our hearts, we take comfort in the knowledge that you are in heaven now, where we all long to be and will one day reunite.
Love you dad, and see you soon.
