Bill Unger

Obituary

Willie Unger (Bill) was born to Abram W. and Katie Wiebe Unger on October 6, 1933, at his parental home in Ile des Chenes, Manitoba. He went to his reward on Monday, July 22, 2024, at the age of ninety years.

Dad gave his heart to the Lord at eighteen years of age on October 28, 1951. He was baptized on January 23, 1956, into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite. The church was very precious to him and he was faithful to the end.

On May 13, 1956, he married Laverna Giesbrecht.

Dad worked at a variety of jobs, including Ste. Anne Coop, Bergman Meats, and a few different feed mills. He loved going on lots of picnics and rides to the Whiteshell Park, going on berry picking trips and other day trips. Dad gave himself to mission work at Jackhead Reserve with teaching Sunday school. Sunday school was always important to him – whether teaching or going himself. After retirement he spent a lot of time buying and reading storybooks and helping to fill the school library. His last words in the hours before his death were “Jesus lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly.”

His survivors include his loving wife Laverna; children: Patricia and Robert, Steinbach; Tony and Deb, Kleefeld; Tim and Nadine, Steinbach; David and Sara, Steinbach; Robert and Tamera, Chilliwack, British Columbia; Margaret Rose, Steinbach; Teresa and Doyle, Versailles, Missouri; 25 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren; and special friend Karen.

He was predeceased by an infant daughter, Grace; his parents and all his brothers and sisters.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Maplewood Manor staff for their unselfish, loving care and concern.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 10:30 a.m., at Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Steinbach, MB.

The interment will take place at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
