Douglas Gerald Adams went to his heavenly home on July 18, 2024, at the age of 77 in Vernon, British Columbia. Born on August 20, 1946, in Miami, Manitoba, Doug was a dedicated family man, known for his kind heart, generosity, and his infectious sense of humour.
Doug is survived by his loving wife, Irene Adams, whom he married in 1969. He was a proud father to Chris Adams (Danielle Carefoot) and Arleigh Regier (Daryl). He was also a cherished grandfather to Taylor Phillips (Austin), Kylie Sytsma (Cam), Rebecca Adams (Chris Rogers), Joelle Regier, CJ Adams, and Charleigh and Felix Carefoot. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Nora Adams, his brother Ken Adams, and many dear family and friends.
After attending Miami School, Doug embarked on a fulfilling career as a loans officer at various Manitoba Credit Unions for 32 years until his retirement in 2000. He also worked as a delivery driver for car parts in Niverville for 17 years, a role that allowed him to stay active and connected within his community. Doug and Irene moved to Vernon, BC, in 2022, where he hoped to enjoy many retirement years in the Okanagan. Unfortunately, soon after the move, he began showing symptoms of ALS.
Doug was an active member of Niverville Community Fellowship and later attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Vernon after his move. He was deeply involved in volunteering, contributing his time to the Niverville Thrift Store, Niverville Health Foundation, their condo board, food banks, and ushering at church. An avid sports fan, Doug rarely missed a Blue Bombers game, loved watching curling and playing games. He enjoyed staying physically active through biking and walking. He treasured his vacation get-aways with Irene.
A private graveside service was held for Doug on July 26, 2024 at Pleasant Valley Cemetery in Vernon, BC. A celebration of life will be held at Niverville Community Fellowship, in Niverville, MB at 2 pm on Saturday, September 14, 2024.
Doug’s legacy of laughter, community involvement, and unwavering support for his family and friends will be deeply missed and forever cherished.
