Sarah Friesen passed peacefully into the presence of the Lord on Sunday, August 18, 2024, in her home. She was 68.
She is survived by her children: Rachel Bueckert, Sarah Pelletier (Dan), and Isaac Bueckert (Larissa); her granddaughters: Samantha LeDorze (Matthieu) and Isabelle Pelletier; and her brother Frank Kornelsen (Elizabeth).
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Jake and Betty Kornelsen, and her brothers Richard and Abe Kornelsen.
She was born in Quellen Colony in Chihuahua, Mexico, and moved with her family to Canada in 1971.
Sarah’s faith in Jesus Christ grew to be the most important thing in her life in her later years. While she had grown up in a religious community, Sarah found a real relationship with Jesus at a Pentecostal tent revival meeting where she was filled with the Holy Spirit (which she loved to talk about). Over many years she grew in her love for God, acceptance of the grace she received, and inner healing. Most recently she found help in all these areas with classes given at Southland Church in Steinbach. Mom would excitedly share about what she was learning, what she heard from God, or answers to prayer with anyone who would want to listen, and even a few that didn’t.
While fiercely independent, Mom enjoyed time with family, friends, classmates, and coworkers, they all enjoyed her sense of humour, and how she would laugh at her own jokes, even though she never remembered the punchline.
She especially loved to cook and bake and see people enjoy what she created. She enjoyed sewing and quilting and loved getting away to warm places if she ever could, most recently visiting family in Belize.
Thanks to all the people who came and visited Mom and expressed care to her and to our family.
Our deepest thanks go out to the palliative care group, especially Ashley. Your help was invaluable in a very difficult, but beautiful, time.
A funeral service and reception is planned for Thursday August 22, 2024, at 2:00 pm with a viewing one hour prior to service, at Crossings Funeral Care in Steinbach. A private family interment will take place at the Heritage Cemetery following the reception.
