After a long courageous battle with ALS, Blair hung in until we were ready to let him go. Blair was born in Crystal City, MB., and the family settled on a farm. They moved to Winnipeg during Blair’s early school years. The family would move to Swift Current, SK., in Blair’s early teenage years. They would back to Winnipeg, where Blair finished his high school at Churchill High School. After high school, Blair started working for Manitoba Hydro at age of 19, working in various locations. He retired from Manitoba Hydro after almost 40 years, where he made many lifelong friends. In June 1998, he moved his family to Mona’s hometown of St-Pierre-Jolys. Here he quickly became an integral part of the community, volunteering on several committees. His biggest impact would be his many years as president of Rat River Minor Hockey. He would represent RR Minor Hockey on several local and provincial boards, include his favorite, the Frog Follies Festival. After his retirement, Blair became the local MEMEC representative. He was integral in forming the present-day emergency preparedness of the community.
Blair passed on his love for music and sports to his boys. They would spend many hours enjoying music and watching any sports, their favorites were hockey, football and baseball.
Blair & Mona shared their love for sports, especially the Winnipeg Jets, and Blair was a lifelong fan and season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They also enjoyed travelling. Their most memorable was the 2018 trip to Europe with a group of friends. Many laughs and memories were made.
We would like to thank our family and close friends that helped us through our journey these last years. Especially in the last few days at the hospital, cousin Garth Fallis & Janie, lifelong friend Ron & Laura Takeshita, Ken & Evelyn, Yvette, Simone & Allan, Robert & Arlene, Carole & Guillaume and all those that dropped in to make sure we were taken care of.
We would like to thank the ALS Clinic at Deere Lodge Hospital, ALS Society of Manitoba and Southern Health Homecare and Palliative Care for providing us with the necessary support and equipment.
Our hearth-felt thank you to all the staff at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, from the moment we arrived in the ER to the staff on the surgery unit. Your dedication to Blair’s care and our wellbeing is most appreciated.
