Obituary

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jules Godard at the age of 84 on Monday, September 9, 2024 at Ste. Anne Hospital, Ste. Anne, MB.

Left to cherish in his memory, his wife Julienne, his two daughters, Aline (Hub Blanchette) and Huguette (Gary Leonard), four grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, Marc (Sara), Paige, Peyton and Myles, Gina (David Nadeau) Émilie, Mia and Alyssa, Joel (Liane) Avery and Taylor, Jody (Robert Rowan) Clayton, Olivia and Haley and his sister Lucienne Richard.

He was predeceased by his parents August and Blanche (Bourgouin), sister Yvonne Dornez, brother Paul and great grandson Dawson Nadeau.

Jules was born February 29, 1940 and lived in Richer where he raised his family and started his own business, Jules Godard Forest Product Ltd. It quickly became known how much his employees meant to him and how quickly they became his extended family.

In 1974, a beautiful piece of property off HWY 302 was purchased to allow the business to grow and become a great home to raise their family. They resided there until 2021 before moving to Ste. Anne.

Building a close relationship and memories with his children and their families was important to him. He was extra proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One could see him getting at their level and playing with them or picking them up to help pépère work. When he retired one would see him at his grandchildren’s property tinkering /helping around. Retirement was not for him.

He worked many long and hard hours for many years to accomplish his vision of turning his grandfather’s homestead into a beautiful lake property. He kept adding projects. His ambition and determination turned a gravel pit into in a piece of heaven on earth. Many family events were held here; weddings, birthdays, BBQ’s.

He made sure that no matter what work was needed, family came first. He loved to see people have fun. He loved to travel and took many trips with family and his employees. He was known for his vehicles. A new vehicle purchase was not complete without installing a full set of decorative lanterns and fancy stripes.

In 2001, he had open heart surgery to replace a valve. This year the leakage had worsened which resulted in congestive heart failure. We are thankful this surgery allowed us an additional 23 years with him.

You will deeply be missed. We know you will always be here watching over us. You will always be in our heart and we will live everyday with the memories we shared. We will see you again. On t’aime gros et pour toujours.

Cremation has taken place. In respect to his wishes, there will be no funeral service held.
