Our dear sister and auntie Della Wohlgemuth was born to Cornelius and Minna Reimer Wohlgemuth on February 23, 1949, in Steinbach, Manitoba. She peacefully departed this life on October 19, 2024, at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba.
Della accepted Jesus as her Saviour and was baptized on April 30, 1961, into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, by Minister Clifford Penner. She lived a conscientious Christian life to the end.
She grew up on the family farm in the Ste. Anne area with three brothers and two sisters. She contracted polio at the age of three, which left its effects throughout her life. It served to create in her a special love and compassion for the sick and handicapped.
Her nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews were very special to her. She showed her love by knitting baby sweaters for them and remembering their birthdays.
Her determination was evidenced in walking, piecing puzzles, going to work in any weather or whatever she set her mind on doing. Della was meticulous and orderly in every detail of her life.
Della spent nine months in Gallup Childcare Home which resulted in life-long friends with whom she kept in contact until the last days of her life. She trained as an LPN and worked at various places including the Linden Nursing Home and Children’s Homes in Winnipeg. She gained many local friends through her years as a Home Care Worker.
Almost five years ago, she made the difficult move to Maplewood Manor. As time went on, the residents and staff became almost like family to her. Della appreciated the faithful support of Joanne and Carol.
Della will be missed by two sisters and two brothers, Joanne and Carol, both of Steinbach, Manitoba, Leon & Sylvia of Swan River, Manitoba, Edgar & Lorraine of Ste. Anne, Manitoba. She will also be missed by seven nephews and nine nieces and their children.
She was predeceased by her parents, grandparents, one brother, one sister-in-law and two great nieces.
We want to extend a special thank you to the Maplewood Manor staff for their compassionate care.
