Obituary

Minnie Reimer, age 97 of Steinbach, MB. passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, at Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB. She passed away peacefully with family by her side.

She is survived by two sisters, three brothers, five sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law and dozens of nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jacob P.D. and Elizabeth Reimer, four brothers and three sisters.

Born September 13, 1927, the oldest of 13 children, Minnie was determined, organized, hardworking, and creative. As the oldest sister of a large family, she could be authoritative, yet caring and generous. Besides working hard at home to help with the big family, Minnie also worked at Tabor Home in Morden and at the Eventide in Rosenort. Minnie was the first of the family to pursue further education and attended Steinbach Bible Institute and went for nurses training in her mid thirties. After graduating, she worked at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach on the main floor general ward. Minnie worked there for over 30 years.

Minnie enjoyed traveling with her sisters and friends, whether they were road trips or bus tours or even trips to Europe. Minnie was also very creative doing beautifully detailed handwork and sewing for her mom and her siblings. She would even design the dress patterns herself. She also expressed her creativity through gardening, especially in the beautiful garden at the home she shared with her sister, Mary.

After retiring, Minnie continued to serve the community through volunteering at MCC Thrift Store and Steinbach Heritage Village. Minnie and her sisters, Mary and Betty, were the glue that held the big family together.

Minnie trusted in Jesus all her life. She was baptized at Rosenort Kleine Gemeinde Church in her late teens. She attended Steinbach EMC for many years. Her faith was evident even in the confusion of dementia in her final few years.

Minnie enjoyed life and intended to live to a hundred. Even though she had rheumatic fever as a child, a battle with cancer and a broken hip, she almost made it.

Special thanks to the nurses and staff at Rest Haven for making Minnie feel so much at home these past two years.

The livestreamed celebration of life will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at 4:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a private family interment prior to the service.
