Obituary

It is with sadness that the family announce the peaceful passing of their father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Leo Braun of Blumenort age 79, on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 at the De Salaberry District Health Centre.

He leaves to cherish his memories, son: Greg (Bambi), daughter Astrid, four granddaughters Lily, Sydney, Lauren, and Amelia, and one great grandson, Grayson; brothers John (Deanna), Cliff (Ramona), Jim (Marion), sisters Trudy Wiens (Eddie), and Naomi Stoesz (Willie), as well as many brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Leo was predeceased by his wife Linda in 2022. He was also predeceased by his parents Heinrich and Margaretha, brothers Menno and Cornelius, sisters Helen, Martha, Tina, Elma, one brother-in-law Jim Loewen, and sister-in-laws Lucy Braun and Rita Schmidt.

Leo was born on December 8, 1944 to loving parents into what became a large family of 6 boys and 6 girls. Dad loved growing up on the farm and could always be found following his dad around helping with chores. Even at an early age he enjoyed cheering people up with humor and jokes. At the young age of 15, dad dedicated his life to the family farm alongside his dad. This is when dad developed his passion for farming that lasted his whole life and led to the success of Braunsdale Holsteins.

Dad met the love of his life Linda in early 1970. They were married later that year and started their beautiful life together. They had a wonderful 52 years together farming, traveling, and raising their two children Greg and Astrid. They created so many memories going on trips and adventures, even after grandchildren were welcomed to the family. Dad cherished the memories made with his wife and family.

In later years dad enjoyed having deep conversations with his loved ones which he would often initiate with a question about some theoretical issue (often related to scriptural interpretation), politics, 0r current events. Of course, dad had his opinions in these discussions and expressed them freely.

Dad had his own unique relationship with Jesus as a Christian and was at peace with leaving this earth to meet his Saviour and to be reunited with mom.

A livestreamed celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 at Crossings Funeral Care.
