It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Florida Marie Martel. Florida passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, Winnipeg, MB., in the early hours of the morning on Tuesday, November 19, 2024.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her sister-in-law, Jean Martel (Gerald), along with many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces, great-great nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by her parents Marcien and Florentine Martel, her brothers and sisters-in-law, Leon (Leontine), Philip (June), Gerald, Ferdinand, Vezina (Grace), Fred (Chris); and sister Orise Davis (Wesley).
She was raised in Middlebro, MB., and lived there until her teaching career began. Florida started teaching at a very young age in Manitoba and Ontario, before coming to Winnipeg, in 1960 where she was hired by Winnipeg #1 School Division. She taught there for 34 years, teaching and attending University of Winnipeg before taking early retirement in 1993.
Florida kept herself busy with cooking, shopping, bowling, volunteering at the Fringe Festival, the Manitoba Theatre Centre and the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra, as well, she belonged to the Seine River Seniors group that travelled to special events, fall suppers and many other outings. She loved travelling and visited a number of countries throughout her travels.
She will be very much missed by all that knew her.
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, from 2:00 to 2:30 p.m., at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church, 60 Main Street, South Junction, MB., followed by a graveside blessing at the cemetery behind the church. Following the interment there will be a celebration of life at the Pine Grove Senior Club, 22 Prevost Street, South Junction, MB.
