Agnes “Nan” Hocking passed away peacefully and entered the Lord’s presence on Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Nan was born on November 27, 1931, in Hamilton, Scotland. She moved to Plymouth, England in 1955, when she married the love of her life Bill. In 1975, she followed her husband to Winnipeg, Canada along with their two children.
Nan and Bill moved to Niverville in 1979. Nan became a widow too soon in 1984 but remained in Niverville surrounded by many close friends and devoted herself to church activities and hosting many foreign students from Providence College who found themselves in a strange country, without family. Nan prayed that God would bring her either a new husband, or grandchildren. Grandchildren started arriving in 1992 and her heart was overflowing with love for them.
Nan was predeceased by her parents, her husband Bill in 1984 and one son Colin in 2011, both Bill and Colin were 49. Nan was also pre-deceased by one sister Mary.
Nan is survived by her daughter Susan Wiebe (Dave), Grandsons Calvin Wiebe, Simon Wiebe and Samuel (Jenisa) Wiebe. Granddaughters Natalie and Lisa and her very special adopted family Amparo, Katelynne and Edis who called her “Nita”. She also leaves to mourn her twin sister Greta and younger sister Wilma, as well as many nieces and nephews in Scotland. Nan was blessed with her first great-grandson Archer in June 2024.
A very special thank you to the amazing staff at Menno Home in Grunthal for taking care of Nan the last couple of years while she battled dementia.
