It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Jean Windle Major nee Murray, peacefully, surrounded by her loving family at Rest Haven Personal Care Home, Steinbach, MB., on Monday, December 9th, 2024, at the age of 88 years after a long and fulfilling life.
Jean was born on September 18,1936, in Indian Head, Saskatchewan, to brighten a fall day for Harry and Eileen Murray and join her older brother Jack and sister Mary to complete their growing and ambitious family. Shortly after leaving Saskatchewan, they began a life in Morris, MB., where Jean formed close friendships that would prove to last a lifetime.
Jean attended Morris Collegiate Institute and graduated high school in June 1954, and attended and graduated from Normal School Teaching College in 1955. Jean began a lifelong career in teaching Jean was a lifelong learner with a passion for educating young minds. To expand her horizons, she continued her learning pursuits at the University of Manitoba furthering her credentials in teaching.
Jean married the love of her life Robert (Bob) Major on August 8, 1958, in Morris and first took up residence in Winnipeg on Pembina Highway then moved to a house on Bentwood Bay. Jean and Bob welcomed their son Kent (1960) and Grant (1963) then moved to Steinbach, MB., in 1964, and welcomed their daughter Lianne (1966). Mom was active in the Kinnette Club, United Church, Curling Club and served the community for many years. Jean was an accomplished knitter, could cook pies that will long be remembered and was a life-long animal lover.
Jean is survived by her children Kent Major and spouse Dianne Theoret-Major, granddaughter Emma and grandson Kyle; Grant Major and spouse Luba Bilun-Major, grandson Alexander and granddaughter Quinn and; daughter Lianne Major-Boudreau; granddaughter Stephanie.
Jean is predeceased by her husband Bob, grandson Scott Boudreau, sister Mary, brother Jack and her parents Harry and Eileen Murray.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, February 22, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
