Patrick Nicolas Nelson, age 77, of Winnipeg, MB., passed away on Friday, December 24, 2024, after a lengthy illness. He was surrounded by family in his final moments.
Patrick is survived by his two sons, Kevin Nelson and Shane Kustra-Nelson; his grandchildren, Meray Hall, Azaria Nelson, and Sloan Nelson; and his loving sisters, Jean, June, and Althea Nelson. He will be forever remembered with love by his daughter-in-law, Crystal Nelson, and his nieces and nephews, Patricia, Peter, and David Walker.
Patrick was predeceased by his beloved sister, Inez Walker, whose memory he carried close to his heart.
Born in Trinidad and Tobago, Patrick grew up by the ocean, a place that always brought him joy and peace. At the age of 22, he courageously moved to Canada with his sister Jean, joining his sister Inez in Winnipeg. He soon found work in Thompson, Manitoba, and later returned to Winnipeg, where he enjoyed a long and proud career as a meat cutter at Burns and later Maple Leaf.
Patrick had a deep passion for sports, fishing, and sharing moments with friends. In his youth, he boxed, and after moving to Canada, he discovered a love for golf. He never missed a chance to watch football on Sundays or cheer on the Bombers in person whenever possible. Patrick loved to converse with those around him, always ready to share a laugh or a story. His warmth, humor, and genuine care for others often left people smiling.
A private service will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses who provided Patrick with compassionate care throughout his illness.
Patrick’s memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, reunited with those who went before him.
