Susan Giesbrecht (nee Dyck) passed away peacefully, on Sunday, January 12, 2025, with her family by her side after a brief illness. She will be greatly missed, leaving a void in the lives of those she cherished. While we are saddened by her passing, we take comfort knowing she is now reunited with her beloved husband, free from the challenges of this life.
Susan is survived by her son Wilf (Eleanor) and their children Jaeden (Abby), Leanna (Javid), Kaley, Isabella, and daughter Matilda (Ray) Rempel and their children Christian and Jaime.
Susan was born in Paraguay on March 3, 1942, one of eleven children. At 14, she lost her mother and quickly became a strong, caring, humble leader for her siblings and family. She learned to serve others at a young age and continued doing so throughout her life, never ceasing to help those around her. She loved and appreciated the people in her life, whether expressing kindness through her service or, in her later years, the gratitude of the support she received from those who cared for her – she loved people. Her faith was a strong foundation of who she was and spent time daily in prayer for her family.
Mom and Dad were married on August 12, 1964, and shared an incredible marriage for 56 years. After moving to Canada in 1976, they devoted much of their time to serving seniors and widows and those having struggles. Together, they raised two children, Wilf and Matilda. Their family grew to 12, and Mom loved each member deeply.
After Dad’s passing in 2020, Susan faced several medical challenges but met each one with determination and resilience. She adapted to her new community at Bridge Park Manor, where she remained independent until her final days. Surrounded by family, we find peace knowing she passed into heaven smiling and blessed.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to all those who supported and cared for Mom in her final years. We also wish to express our deep gratitude to the exceptional health care staff at Bethesda Regional Health Center for their compassionate care during her final days.
The celebration of Susan’s life will be held on Monday, January 20, at 1:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a viewing one hour prior to the service.
The interment will take place at New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church Cemetery, New Bothwell, MB.
