Agnes was born in Tolstoi, MB. On April 21, 1929 to Fred and Sara Edinger. Agnes, and her younger sister Evelyne, grew up on the family farm in Overstone, MB.
In 1943 the family moved to Morris, MB., where Agnes completed her education. A year later she returned to Overstone to teach grades 1 to 8, a total of 28 students.
The following year she moved to Winnipeg and worked at the Bank of Montreal on Portage and Main, later transfering to the branch in Morris. She worked there until 1950, when she met and married Reinhold (Rheiny) Walters of Morris,
They were married on April 15, 1950, just prior to the flood. They moved in with Rheiny’s parents to help on the family farm. In 1952 they purchased the farm from his parents and started out on their own.
In 1959 their one child, a son, Calvin Larry Walters was born.
Agnes loved being a farmer’s wife, working alongside Rheiny, and later in his place, along with their son Calvin, when Rheiny became too sick. They managed to continue farming until 1979.
Agnes was baptized in 1941 and faithfully attended the Morris Emmanuel Baptist Church for 70 years. She taught Sunday School, worked with the Scripture Memory program, sang in the choir and helped with the Women’s program.
In the community, Agnes volunteered at the Red River Valley Lodge and in the MCC store, where she worked for 30 years.
Rheiny passed away in May of 2011, a month after they celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary. Five years later, she moved to Winkler, MB. to be closer to her son and his family. She resided at the Buhler Active Living Centre for five years, enjoying the new friends she made, both with fellow residents and the wonderful staff, and participating in activities there.
It was her growing dementia that required a move, via many months in the hospital, to the Red River Valley Lodge in Morris in May of 2021.
A private family celebration of Anges’ life will be held at the Emmanuel Baptiste Church in Morris, Manitoba. Burial will take place at the Morris Cemetery.
Public Viewing will be held at Morris Funeral Home Thursday, January 16, 2024 from 12:00pm to 7:00pm.
