Linda was born in Altona, MB., and raised in Rose Farm outside of Lowe Farm, MB., where she spent a happy childhood on the family farm. After graduation Linda went to Providence College followed by Red River College to study Social Welfare. She then went to work at Marymound and Child and Family Services. Afterwards she spent many years working at El’Dad Ranch and the Association for Community Living, later in the role of Director of Diversified Housing.
Linda met Ed at Young Peoples at Morrow Gospel Church in Winnipeg. After their friendship turned into romance, they married in March of 1975. She was sorry her illness would not allow her to reach their 50th anniversary this March.
Together with their children and numerous pets they enjoyed extended family camping trips, road trips and other vacations. Their home was always open to friends and family.
Linda loved to garden, and it showed with her enviable flower beds. While staying at home to care for and raise their family she kept busy with countless craft sales, many of which she enjoyed attending with her mother. She was an incredible seamstress and did many custom orders but especially loved making blankies, clothes and quilts for her grandchildren.
After years of summers spent at Cass Lake, Minnesota, in 2002 Linda and Ed purchased a trailer at Beauty Bay Park & Golf Course. Together they tirelessly worked to build on and renovate to accommodate all their children and grandchildren and any friends in tow. While Ed worked on the construction Linda put her natural gift for decorating and gardening to work and created a little oasis for all to enjoy.
During the first winters of part time retirement Linda and Ed became frequent travellers to South Padre Island and Pine to Palm Resort in Weslaco, Texas. After several years they decided to adventure further south and headed to Puerto Vallarta and Bucerias, Mexico. After arriving in Bucerias they knew they found their winter home and quickly made many close friends that have become like family to them over the past 7 years.
Although she had many health struggles throughout her life, Linda remained ever positive and found joy in the little things around her and strived to live life to its fullest.
Her generous loving and accepting spirit touched all of those around her.
Special thanks to Dr. Reimer and the Southern Health Palliative Care team, Dr. Toews, and the many nurses and healthcare aides at Bethesda Regional Health Centre.
The Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 25th at 1:00 p.m. at the Heartland Community Church, 333 Main Street, Landmark, MB.
