Obituary

Yvonne Baxter was born on May 23, 1942 to Thelma and George Quantrill in Penicuik, Scotland. She first saw Canada at the age of 7, when they emigrated to Winnipeg.

Yvonne is survived by her soul mate of 41 years, Mel Baxter, and her 4 children: Bruce (Michele), Lynda, Heather, and Ian (Hannah) as well as her 3 grandchildren, Talia, Max and Morgan. She is also survived by two sisters: Rita and Bunty. Yvonne is predeceased by one brother George.

Yvonne started her working life at MTS, in the days when switchboards were in vogue. Split shifts were the working world for Yvonne, and an 8-hour shift often resulted in 10 hours or more. After a number of years as a homemaker, Yvonne returned to a permanent position as a Pharmacy Assistant at McKnight’s Pharmacy, where she met and married Mel. He ran the pharmacy while Yvonne managed the front store operation. This team worked well especially when in 1995 they took on Valley Super Thrifty Pharmacy in Morris, and one year later moved to Birch Crescent. Thanks to the staff for the many years of friendship.

Yvonne loved to travel, touring throughout Canada and the United States, as well as the United Kingdom. Shopping was her passion, and reading was one of her favorite hobbies as she cleared 2 to 3 mystery books per week. Thanks to Dianne at Valley Regional Library for keeping the supply up.

Yvonne will be missed by her best friends, Leslie and Donna. Fergus her border terrier, is missing her terribly too.

The family would like to thank Dr. Fraser and staff of the Morris General Hospital for their care.

Public viewing will be held at Morris Funeral Home Wednesday, January 15, 2025 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm.

A celebration of Yvonne’s life will be held at a later date.
