Helen was born in Sundown, Manitoba, on August 1, 1947, where she spent her childhood years on the family farm. She moved to Winnipeg and continued her education in Dental Assisting which became her life passion. She loved her profession.
On August 22, 1970, she married her husband Melvin Kachur and raised two daughters, Sheri and Melissa, and had many adventures living in Pinawa, Saskatoon and Edmonton before moving back to Manitoba to be closer to family.
Helen enjoyed working in Steinbach at the Victoria Dental Centre with Dr. Cherneski for over 30 years and made life long friends there that she considered family. She was a mentor, friend and mother figure to many many staff over the decades.
Helen was very proud of her Ukrainian heritage and could be found preparing Ukrainian food many times over the years for others. You were always welcome at her table and countless work potlucks were blessed by her dishes. She was well known for her puffed wheat cake and wild rice soup. She was a true volunteer at heart and volunteered her time with many organizations and over the last years helped many new Ukrainian families to the area. Her work ethic and giving nature will always be remembered. She held many fond memories of her travels over the years, especially of her time visiting Ukraine and the Maple Leaf house, and her trip to the Holy Lands in Jerusalem.
She loved sharing and teaching her Ukrainian traditions to her treasured granddaughters, Meagan, Madi and Myah and family was always first for her.
The family wishes to express our appreciation and gratitude for all the prayers and support these last months. We would like to acknowledge and thank the team at Bethesda Hospital, rehab unit, and Bethesda Place for their care that extended above and beyond, Pastor Gary, her special friend Melissa Zarecki and Birchwood Funeral Chapel for their care.
