One fine spring day John and Anne Dyck decided to take a drive and ended up in Winkler, MB. When they arrived Anne had gone into labour and delivered a boy they called Raymond John.
This is the story of Raymond John.
Ray was born the second child of four to John and Anne Dyck. Marlene Carr (Dave), Raymond (Laura), Brian (Noreen) and Wendy Wieler (Denver).
He grew up in Winnipeg and finally settled Niverville in 1967, were he lived the rest of his youth. He delighted in terrorizing his siblings every chance he got. Pocket knife’s and bikes aside, he could always be found hanging out, helping his father at the high school, or more importantly at the rink. This is were he developed his need for speed. Hockey and fast cars made up most of his youth. He soon took to needing more wheels and took up driving a 18 wheeler. This was his chosen profession, which he excelled at for the next 49 years.
In between, he married and had five children- Jenni-Lynn, Marc, Vanessa, Steven and Angie.
He divorced in the late 1990’s and moved to BC, where he continued his love affair with trucking. This is where he met his spouse Laura Long and they resided in Abbotsford for the next 20 years before moving back to Sarto, MB.
He was then busy with his four legged kids, and of course more truck driving. We are not sure if he loved the dogs or driving more.
Through the years Ray suffered from diabetes and heart and lung problems.
On December 21, 2024 Ray suffered a massive coronary attack and was deprived of oxygen for quite a while. Ray passed away December 23, 2024, in Calgary, Alberta, with his wife and siblings by his side.
Ray will be forever missed by his wife Laura, his five children and his stepdaughter Katie, and his three siblings and numerous grandchildren, nieces nephews and large extended family.
Rest in peace – we will see you again. Save a place for us. You are well loved and we miss you.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at Crossings Funeral Care, followed by a time of fellowship. Interment will take place in Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville, Manitoba.
