It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Maman, Grandmother, Great Grandmother and Great-Great-Grandmother lovingly known as “Grandmaman” at the Altona Hospital with family by her side on January 15, 2025, at the age of 104.
Maman will be deeply missed by her daughters, Evelyne (George) and Mariette (Steven); sisters Thérèse Sabourin and Yvette Schumacher; as well as grandchildren, Brigitte (Warren), Robert (Jobina), Christopher (Tina) and Marc (Patrizia); great-grandchildren, Brittany (Kevin), Megan (Yan), Tori (Diamond), Deryn (Tyler), Laura, Autumn, Olivia and Nicholas; and her beloved great-great grandchildren Leighton, Rexley, Sumner, Romy, Hayes and Calli. She also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews and dear friends.
Irène is predeceased by her parents, Joseph and Emelia (Carrière) Larivière; brothers, Raymond, Arthur (Thérèse), Lionel (Edna), Louis, and Levis; sisters Annette, Hélène (Albert Champagne), Yvonne, Corinne (Jos Dedieu), and Armande; and brothers-in-law Amedée Sabourin and Art Schumacher.
Maman was born and raised in St. Pierre-Jolys, Manitoba. She later moved to St. Jean Baptiste and lived independently until the age of 100 at the Paradis des Pionniers before moving in with her daughter, Evelyne. She worked hard all her life up until retirement. Her strong faith helped guide her through many hurdles.
Maman’s happiest moments were spent surrounded by her family where love filled the air. Her kind, warm and welcoming spirit extended beyond her family and was loved by many. Her passion was providing a helping hand to anyone who needed it. She specifically enjoyed volunteering at the Siloam Mission.
To her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, she passed on the richest inheritance of all: the importance of family and being together.
We graciously thank the staff at Altona Hospital Palliative Care for all their compassion and kindness with Maman during her final days.
A public viewing will be held Thursday, January 23, 2025 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at The Morris Funeral Home. A private family burial will take place prior to the celebration of life.
A celebration of life will take place Friday, January 24, 2025, at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Jean Centennial Hall, 203 Caron Street, St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba.
A life lived with love is an inspiration to us all.
“I love you very much. And I thank you, that you all help one another. This is very, very, important.” ~ Grandmaman
