Obituary

Wendy was born August 19, 1944, in Vita, Manitoba to Frank & Emily Pott. She passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the Vita Personal Care Home at the age of 80 years old.

Wendy was predeceased by her first husband William “Bill” Hildebrand (1988) and second husband Gord Penner (1995) along with two step sons, Brad Penner and George Stapleton.

She is survived by her children Janice (Barry) Paddock, Tracy Hildebrand, Trevor (Jennifer) Hildebrand and grandchildren Carlee (Colton) Froese, Kirsten Hildebrand, and great-grand children Forrest and Lark Froese, (step) children Marvin and Melanie Penner, Sharon Stapleton, Jim and Angie Penner, Greg Penner and their families.

Wendy was born and raised in Woodmore, Manitoba, where she went through her early years going to school and be involved in community activities such as 4-H. Marrying Bill Hildebrand in 1962, they started their journey together along with her parents in farming life in Woodmore, that led to a growing dairy farm where she faithfully participated in daily chores, making field lunches and raising three children. With the sudden passing of her husband Bill in 1988, Wendy and her children kept the farm for a year, until a decision was made to move away from farm life 1989. Wendy embarked on a new chapter, and became a Nurses Aid, caring for the residents in Rest Haven. She loved her job and all the friends she made while there. She remarried in 1991 to Gordon Penner and enjoyed travelling, going to the cottage, and all her new family and friends. Gordons passing in 1995 meant another change in life. She went back to working at Rest Haven again for several years until she finally decided to retire. She loved to play with her grandchildren, gardening, especially growing her flowers. Throughout her life she had a deep faith and love for her Lord and Saviour, to whom she has gone home to. She worked in many different aspects in church ministry, from youth, teaching Sunday School, and women’s functions. She loved sharing her faith and affected everyone with her warm personality, wonderful smile, and infectious laugh. Even as her memory faded, her faith in God and love of family NEVER left her. There was always a smile available, and a warm heart waiting for you.

Special thanks and appreciation to everyone at the Vita Personal Care Home for all the kindness and meaningful care provided to Wendy on a daily basis.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, January 20, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 McKenzie Ave, Steinbach, Manitoba, with viewing one hour prior to the service.
