Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Nina Marie Reimer (nee Zeman), age 80, on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Grace Hospital, Winnipeg, MB.

Nina was born on May 16, 1944, in Michigan City, Indiana, the ninth of ten children.

She was predeceased by her parents, her siblings, and her beloved granddaughter Becky.

Nina leaves behind her loving husband of almost 60 years, Peter, and her cherished children: son Peter (Lauralee) and grandchildren Kate (Luke), great-grandchildren Pip and Alice, Ashtyn and Mitchell; daughter Pamela (Leonard) and grandchildren Janelle (Aaron), Jake (Amy), and Carly; and son Rod (Diane) and grandchildren Ian, Abby (Graeson), and Cameron.

Nina’s journey began in small-town Indiana, where she met the love of her life at a truck stop – a meeting that led to her making the bold decision to leave everything familiar behind and move to Winnipeg, Manitoba, starting a new chapter in her life.

Her life was deeply centered around her family, especially her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. Nina was a devoted reader, always with a book in her purse to occupy any spare moment. Known for her nurturing spirit, Nina became the town of Oakbank’s beloved babysitter, with kids constantly coming in and out of her home. She loved children of all ages and treated each one with care and affection.

Nina had a natural talent for organization, which she used in her role as the shipper/receiver/accountant for the business she shared with Peter, Tamarac Springs Transport. She was also known for her delicious sour cream twists, scuffles and soft white peppermint cookies, all special treats requested and enjoyed by her grandchildren.

In her later years, Nina treasured spending time with her neighbors at Kildonan Green, playing competitive games of dominoes and canasta – a streak of competitiveness that her grandchildren often witnessed firsthand.

Nina had a servant’s heart. Her quiet but strong faith became even more evident in her final years, and particularly in her final days. As her time on earth neared its end, Nina demonstrated grace, peace, and confidence in knowing Jesus and looking forward to being in his presence. Even when she was at her weakest, she took time to speak with each of her grandchildren, assuring them of her love. Her words, “I love you more,” became a final expression of her deep affection for her family.

Nina will be greatly missed, but her legacy of love, faith, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at Abundant Life Baptist Church, 1396 Plessis Rd, Winnipeg, MB., at 10 a.m. Doors will open at 9:30 a.m. to allow anyone who would like the opportunity to say good-bye to Nina before the service.

Thank you to the Emergency Department staff at Grace General Hospital for making Nina’s final days comfortable. An extra special thank-you to Sholla Unrau and the wonderful homecare staff who did an exceptional job of caring for Nina’s daily needs.

“If I go away and prepare a place for you, I will come again and take you to myself, so that where I am you may be also.” ~ John 14:3
