Obituary

Hildegard Adrian passed away peacefully at the age of 90, on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at her residence, Bethesda Place, Steinbach, MB.

She was born on May 27, 1934, in Winnipeg to Dietrich D. and Katie (Janzen) Warkentin. She spent her early childhood years on the family farm in Dominion City, before the family moved to Steinbach. Hildegard completed her education in 1952 at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna.

She was baptized upon the confession of her faith and became a member of the Steinbach Mennonite Church in 1952.

On June 29, 1958, she married Jake Adrian, and they established their home in Steinbach. They were blessed with two daughters and two sons. Hildegard was a stay-at-home mom, attending to the needs of her husband and family. Sewing was her passion, and through gaining experience by taking courses, she was able to supplement Jake’s income. An additional passion of hers was restoring and repairing dolls, which she did in her spare time. She and Jake also enjoyed volunteering at the Mennonite Heritage Village Museum.

The hours spent with her granddaughters was always a special time. She kept in touch with the older three in British Columbia through letter writing and emails. She took great interest in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, following their growth and endeavours. She was very proud of them. She loved to be surrounded by her family and prayed for all of them daily.

She was predeceased by her brother Rudi, parents Dietrich D. and Katie Warkentin, husband Jake, and daughter Lenore. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by son Rudy (Xenia), Edwin (Sheila), Rose (Aaron), and son-in-law Tom. Her granddaughters Melissa (Sam), Bethany (Kris), Rebecca (Rob), Meagan (Dustin), Kristen (Vlad), and their families. She is also survived by one sister Anne Marie Warkentin (Peter).

The family would like to thank the staff at Bethesda Place and the Bethesda Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.

The livestreamed come & go viewing will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with a private family burial taking place at a later date.
