After a long and full life, Jean Lewis passed away at the age of 94 years on February 23, 2025.
Jean is survived by her two daughters and two sons; Peggy (Norm Dyck), David (Wendy Buelow), Jack (Rosemarie Sing) and Kathy (Doug MacDonald); grandchildren, Iris Dyck, Audrey Dyck (Michael Johnson), Clara Buelow (Jesse Thorne-Finch), Erin Buelow, Emma Lewis-Sing (James Roberts), Liam Lewis-Sing, Eric Schlange (Holly) and Sonja Schlange; great-grandchildren, Arthur and Beatrix Thornefinch, Oliver Johnson, Sam and Sophie Schlange. Also surviving Jean are many nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her husband Lorne, her parents, Jennie and Walter Hamblin and her brother Jack Hamblin and sister-in-law, Pat Hamblin, sister-in-law Kathleen Jorgenson and brother-in-law Ed Jorgenson.
Jean was very involved in her community from an early age. She played organ and piano for the Morris United Church for many years and accompanied Lorne as he sang on many occasions.
After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts at the University of Winnipeg and Bachelor of Pedagogy from the University of Manitoba, her career as a teacher began in Morden before marriage and continued in Morris for several years after raising her family. She was also very involved in the family farm, supporting Lorne with meals out to the field during harvest, managing the household, gardens and kids.
Jean was a life-long member of the Order of the Eastern Star and was also involved in the United Church Women. She was an avid reader, in her later years often staying up well past midnight to finish a good book or a challenging crossword puzzle.
Jean’s family would like to thank the Convalescent Home of Winnipeg and Holy Family Home for their excellent care.
The funeral service for Jean will take place on Wednesday, March 5, 2025 at 2:00 pm at the Morris United Church. A private family inurnment will take place prior to the funeral service at the Morris Cemetery.
